The vast Ottoman Empire was home to a variety of Jewish communities. This week Michael Waas will discuss available resources for genealogical research of Jewish families in that vast territory which at one point reached the gates of Vienna. Michael will discuss how to access resources, and what results you can expect to find. He will illustrate the talk with a couple of case studies from his own family. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
Our friend Michael Waas, M.A., is the cofounder of Hollander-Waas Jewish Heritage Services, a Jewish heritage and genealogy research firm. He also volunteers his time as the anthropologist and historian of the Avotaynu Genetic Census of the Jewish People Project.
Many thanks to our regular and new patrons. We couldn’t do this without you. The popularity of Sephardic World means that we are now often over-subscribed and may soon need to restrict Zoom meetings to patrons. Please consider joining our patrons in making a small monthly donation to help keep the show on the road! https://www.patreon.com/sephardi
The meeting is on Sunday 21 February 2021 at 11am LA, 2pm NYC, 7pm London, 8pm Amsterdam and 9pm Jerusalem. Join us on Zoom at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83199377084
Best wishes,
