(Brussels, Monday 25 October 2021) – European Jewish Congress President Dr. Moshe Kantor has welcomed the latest conclusions by the European Council, which among other issues addressed the fight against antisemitism.
In the conclusions following the summit of 21-22 October in Brussels, the Council welcomed the first ever EU Strategy on combatting antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, adopted by the Commission on 5 October 2021.
In addition, the Council declared that “the Malmö International Forum on Holocaust Remembrance and Combating Antisemitism is a reminder that no effort must be spared in fighting all forms of antisemitism, racism and xenophobia.”
“The latest conclusions by the European Council show the determination of European leaders, and in particular of President Charles Michel, to address this vital issue through concrete and ambitious action,” Dr. Kantor said.
“We welcome the sustained efforts by the European Council, working in unison with the European Commission and the European Parliament to lead the global fight against antisemitism and secure a future for Europe’s Jewish communities.”
Dr Kantor and President Michel both addressed the plenary of the Malmö International Forum on 13 October 2021, alongside heads of state and government, and representatives of leading civil society organisations and tech companies.
In the side-lines of the Malmö Forum, Dr. Kantor met with President Michel and thanked him for decisive action leading to the publication of the EU strategy and for calling for a policy of zero impunity against antisemitism. |
